That’s what I felt for the main character Oedipus after finished reading the play Oedipus Rex by Sophacles. The play was a total different one than all the plays I have read before. Before reading it, the sight of the book itself made me dread on the language used and I started wondering how on earth I was going to read it. But, I found it interesting and fascinating as I read on. The tragedy that hits Oedipus is really a heartbreaking one and no man should never be put to face such an ill fate.
Dr Edwin explained every single important terms and incidents vividly. Some of the things we have learnt throughout this play are the significance of Teiresias’ character, comparison between the role of Teiresias in Oedipus Rex and the role of Fool in King Lear, morally blinded/ sighted, wise/foolish and a lot more. Dr Edwin has been informative and knowledgeable as ever and provided us with enough descriptions on the play. I only took note after he made the point on several important aspects of the play. It made me realise that I have got to be more analytical and observant than I am now. Reading the play with him taught me how to analyse every single point of information critically. Besides that, he also made us to look at things at a different perspective as to help a better understanding.
Anyway, reading plays has not been as terrible as I dreaded. I found it really interesting and determined read a lot more in future. Thanks to Dr Edwin as always..

ReplyDeletehai Sivaranjini,
ReplyDeleteWell,i will agree of what you have said .Initially,I had the same feeling as your too.The language matters again.
After the guidence given by Dr.Edwin I read some of the reviews and history on Oedipus. Those information helped me alot in comprehending the play.
i had never had the experince in reading classical plays except for Macbeth the play during our days in IPTI.Comparing Macbeth and Oedipus,i would rather choose Oedipus the play for my reading.
Oedipus ,I like the very much actually.Reading it again and again makes me to discover many things.Referring to the dialogues , our perception chnages as we read it again and again because we tend to explore new things /or undertand him deeper through his dialogues.
